BIOVEGEN participated yesterday in the presentation of the “Observatory on the Spanish agri-food sector in the European context. 2019 Report” organized by Cajamar Caja Rural. This report, prepared by the Valencian Institute of Economic Research, is already the third edition and incorporates a series of annexes with specific information about the most relevant subsectors of the agri-food sector.
Among other notable aspects, it jointly quantifies the different productive branches that define the agri-food sector (both primary and agri-food industry), focusing on the Spanish sector and its European context. It includes a wide range of indicators that allow for the analysis of the agri-food sector in different economic aspects such as its size in terms of added value and employment, its growth rate, productivity and competitiveness, its importance in the external sector of the economy, and its investment efforts in R&D. It also addresses and breaks down the main challenges and opportunities of the sector, among which sustainability, innovation, and consumption trends stand out.
