BIOVEGEN attended the webinar on Plant Variety Protection and tax deductions in plant improvement projects yesterday. During the meeting, the discussions focused on plant improvement projects, the registration procedures for new plant varieties, and the tax benefits that can arise from R&D expenses. The event featured María del Carmen Díez, an expert in the registration of plant varieties, who started the presentation explaining the procedures and requirements for the registration of new plant varieties, and the rights conferred by the Plant Breeder’s Rights. Next, Pedro Valero, a partner at Vector Horizonte and Business Development Manager in the area of R&D tax incentives, presented various tax deductions aimed at R&D in varietal improvement projects. The event concluded with the intervention of Manuel Orea, Tax Inspector and member of the General Subdirectorate of Organization and Legal Assistance of the Tax Agency. There are three main tools that taxpayers can use to prove that the activities they have carried out are related to R&D: motivated reports issued by the General Subdirectorate for the Promotion of Innovation, binding consultations from the General Directorate of Taxes, and prior valuation agreements.
