PONS IP, a leading consulting firm in comprehensive advice on industrial and intellectual property and new technologies for Spain, Europe, and Latin America, is now part of the Plant Biotechnology Technology Platform, BIOVEGEN, a public-private association renowned in the plant innovation ecosystem that currently brings together 172 entities from the agri-food sector to promote collaboration and the launch of R&D and technology transfer projects in plant innovation between companies, public research organizations, and the Public Administration.
With the inclusion of PONS IP in BIOVEGEN as a partner, the consulting firm becomes the first company in the industrial and intellectual property sector to be a member of the Plant Biotechnology Technology Platform, a space from which both entities will work together to enhance the strategic role of generating and managing intangible assets of industrial and intellectual property to optimize the business development strategies of BIOVEGEN members, paying special attention to trade secrets or the various types of generated data (in addition to other types of protection modalities), as well as risk control through precise knowledge of third-party assets or support in relationships with collaborators, suppliers, or partners. To facilitate the achievement of this objective, PONS IP will offer its members the service of analysis and identification of industrial and/or intellectual property assets with the aim of validating or recommending the most appropriate protection strategy for them.
Furthermore, BIOVEGEN and PONS IP will promote the joint organization and participation in events, professional meetings, or training sessions that can provide insight into matters of interest related to current issues linked to industrial and intellectual property and knowledge transfer over the next year, aiming to expand strategic consulting services related to the development of asset protection strategies in a sector that is experiencing a “bloom” in terms of the number of projects and public-private collaboration activities in fields related to plant biology, such as the development of agrobiological inputs, the application of new breeding techniques and the development of plant varieties, the revaluation of organic waste, the development of new sources of protein, and plant extracts with applications in multiple sectors, among others.
In the words of Gonzaga Ruiz de Gauna, manager of BIOVEGEN, the incorporation of PONS IP into the Platform is a result of the extraordinary situation in the agri-food sector and plant production, “which has been experiencing a significant approach to knowledge and biotechnological innovation over the past few years as a tool for business development and competitive improvement.” For the head of BIOVEGEN, “from this need and the interest of the private sector in incorporating technology into production processes and strengthening ties with knowledge generators such as public and private R&D centers and universities, arises the necessity of having entities with proven experience and competence in this field, and it is here that we at BIOVEGEN align interests and consider the inclusion of PONS IP as a strategic partner, as it will provide our members with preferential access to an entity of recognized prestige and experience in the management of innovation and intangible assets.”
For his part, Rafael López Moya, director of Technological Transfer at PONS IP, positively valued the inclusion in Biovegen: “Being part of such a relevant Technological Platform as Biovegen represents a magnificent opportunity for companies to make the most of their efforts in generating results, developments, or innovations, from where PONS IP will support them in defining the best strategy for managing their intangible industrial and intellectual property assets and increasing the value of each project and therefore, that of the company itself.”
