Due to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus and the declaration of the State of Alarm through Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, the normal functioning of the GOCITRUS Operational Group has been disrupted. To minimize the consequences of this situation, the project members have held extraordinary meetings and adopted various measures to maintain the development of GOCITRUS activities and ensure the continuity of the innovative project.
In this context, BIOVEGEN participated yesterday in a new GOCITRUS meeting held virtually, aimed at drafting a modification request document that would allow adapting the project’s development to the current situation.
The GOCITRUS Operational Group was established in 2018 in the context of the Call for Creation of Supra-Autonomous Operational Groups related to the European Innovation Association for productivity and agricultural sustainability. In its first phase (corresponding to Measure 16.1 of the Call), the project aimed to train a group of experts to work on the identification and proper selection of
citrus varieties as a basis for correct variety management and planning. Currently, the GOCITRUS Operational Group is entering its second phase (corresponding to Measure 16.2 of the Call), whose objective is to reorganize and define the varietal bases on which to support the citrus revolution that our productive and export sectors are heading towards, driven by the imperatives and demands of new market relationships.
The GOCITRUS Operational Group includes the participation of 8 Spanish entities and its scope of action directly involves 8 Spanish provinces.
