The Spanish Confederation of Scientific Societies (COSCE) published a report on October 13, presented to the EU, which proposes and compares different possibilities for reforming the regulatory framework of genomic editing techniques. Gonzaga, manager of BIOVEGEN, participated as one of the authors of this document alongside leading experts in the field. The COSCE report details the obstacles posed by the current legal framework in the European Union for the use of plant improvement techniques and proposes alternatives aimed at revising the current regulations, moving away from radical and confrontational positions. The document calls for the necessary revision of the regulatory framework for plant improvement techniques in the EU so that the Spanish agri-food sector can remain competitive and face the challenges of productivity and sustainability demanded by climate change and the global population increase.
