BIOVEGEN participated last week in the first meeting of the MEICOM Project, which took place at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in Birmingham. The project, in which BIOVEGEN is involved as part of the Advisory Board, aims to improve the understanding of meiotic recombination control in plant crops.

The meeting served to bring together all participating members in the project, which has a network of European research groups with an excellent collaborative track record and training networks. BIOVEGEN participated as part of the advisory board with the presentation “BIOVEGEN – R&D network for plant Biotechnology” where the role of the platform as a catalyst for public-private collaboration was discussed, along with an analysis of R&D in the agrifood sector.

MEICOM (Meiotic Control of Recombination in Crops) is a project funded under the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions call of Horizon 2020 (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2017) aimed at creating a team of 12 researchers who will develop a cutting-edge approach in genetics and molecular biology, all directed towards a better understanding of meiotic recombination control in plant crops.
