On June 25, 2026, the I GO PISTABIOTECH Webinar: Biotechnological Recovery Network for Pistachio By-products took place, bringing together more than 50 professionals from the sector to present the objectives and approaches of this Operational Group focused on the biotechnological recovery of by-products generated during the cultivation and processing of pistachios.
During the event, key topics were addressed, such as the increasing production of pistachios in Spain and the volume of waste it generates, the need to find solutions with greater added value, and the profitability of cultivation at the national level. In this context, the collaborative approach between research centers, producers, processors, and entities specialized in technological transfer proposed by this innovative project was highlighted to apply scientific knowledge in the development of new products from these waste materials.
Additionally, throughout the day, practical experiences from the production and processing sector were presented, along with advancements in research on the fractionation and utilization of lignocellulosic biomass to obtain high-value compounds. Furthermore, the meeting included a segment aimed at interaction with other Operational Groups, where the activity of the CRIBI Operational Group was presented. Overall, this webinar allowed for the introduction of GO PISTABIOTECH as an innovative project aimed at improving the competitiveness of the pistachio sector in response to current environmental and productive challenges.
