On February 12, 2014, BIOVEGEN (Technology Platform for Plant Biotechnology) participated in the 3rd European Forum for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Foro Transfiere 2014, which took place on February 12 and 13, 2014, at the Palace of Fairs and Congresses in Málaga.

Transfiere is a space to promote the transfer and cooperation between the scientific and business sectors. This year it saw the presence of 1,500 professionals from the R&D&i environment, and over 1,600 B2B meetings were held. It brought together more than 250 research groups from 50 Spanish universities, 200 companies, and over 30 scientific and technological parks and centers, as well as Technology Platforms and institutions such as the CDTI (Center for Industrial Technological Development), OEPM (Spanish Patent and Trademark Office), CSIC (Higher Council for Scientific Research), etc.

Sectors represented at Transfiere 2014:

  • Agrifood
  • Environment
  • Energy
  • Infrastructure and Transport
  • Health
  • Information and Communication Technologies and Content
  • Industry
  • Security and Defense

As new features compared to Transfiere 2013, where BIOVEGEN was also present, it is worth highlighting the so-called “Zone 3.14”, a new space for micro-enterprises and entrepreneurs that offers a workshop to identify new business opportunities in the sector.

Additionally, a Round Table was held on the Recover Project 2020 (“Development of innovative technologies for the modernization and enhancement of Andalusian agricultural exploitation through Pre-Commercial Public Procurement”), which aims to promote the leadership of Andalusia in the agricultural sector. This project, promoted by MINECO (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) and CSIC, has a budget of €25M, and intends to transfer to companies the knowledge generated by the Andalusian CSIC centers in the agriculture and livestock sector. It consists of 37 initiatives divided into 3 themes:

  • Area 1: New technologies for monitoring agricultural and livestock operations
  • Area 2: New technologies for improving environmental sustainability
  • Area 3: New technologies for improving productivity in agricultural and animal operations
