On January 28, the International Day of Genetic Improvement of Citrus was celebrated, held in the auditorium of the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (IVIA) in Moncada, Valencia.
During the event, the most impactful citrus genetic improvement programs currently being carried out at different international research centers, including IVIA, were presented. The goal of this was to familiarize attendees with the materials and strategies being used for the development, evaluation, and commercial management of new citrus varieties.
The meeting featured the presentation ‘Genomic Approaches for the Development and Management of Citrus Varieties’ by IVIA researcher Manuel Talón. The talk included a section dedicated to introducing the GOCITRUS Operational Group to the attendees of the event. During this section, the objectives of the Operational Group were explained, the expected impacts during the development of GOCITRUS were discussed, and the members of this Operational Group that has recently begun executing its innovative project were introduced. This intervention constitutes the first public presentation of the execution phase of GOCITRUS.
