On January 17, 2020, the launch meeting of the GOCITRUS Operational Group took place at the Cajamar Experience Center in Paiporta. The event, held after the provisional approval of the second phase of the project in November 2018, brought together representatives from the 8 members that make up the Operational Group. The meeting served as a starting point for the execution of the innovative project that aims to reorganize and define the varietal foundations for the citrus revolution that our productive and exporting sectors are heading toward due to the imperatives and demands of new market relationships.
This objective is intended to be realized through the generation of an identification system based on the Citruseq genomic database. To achieve this, the authentication experience gained so far will be generalized to the remaining varieties. Furthermore, the project will work to assist producers in making decisions regarding varietal choice, considering their specific cultivation characteristics. An APP will be created that includes the maximum amount of existing information related to the current varieties and rootstocks. Additionally, GOCITRUS will also serve to evaluate the conditions for the establishment of a technical unit for varietal identification.
