BIOVEGEN collaborates with the PROTEINLEG Operational Group, which aims to develop high-quality food proteins through the sustainable production and processing of legume crops. The project will use legumes as a basis to obtain new sources of plant-based protein-rich foods that are healthy, tasty, and appealing. The varieties of legumes used will be cultivated in an innovative, cost-effective, and resource-efficient manner. Additionally, the project focuses on different varieties of legumes: the most important for human consumption (beans, broad beans, and chickpeas) and for animal consumption (lupins, broad beans, and peas), with the goal of reducing livestock dependence on soy in the production of feed.
