On October 26, BIOVEGEN attended the event “New Tools for Genetic Improvement in Plants” organized by Cajamar and Agrofor, where the AGROFOR platform was presented, aiming to promote public/private interaction in plant breeding. Additionally, this Conference discussed the integration of new biotechnological technologies in breeding programs to increase the efficiency of developing varieties that respond to current challenges.
During the meeting, Gonzaga Ruiz de Gauna, Manager of BIOVEGEN, participated as a moderator in the Round Table “The Need to Apply New Technologies in Plant Breeding,” at 12:30 p.m.
Due to the presence of several members of the FITONET Operational Group, Rosa Ana Malvar, a researcher at the Biological Mission of Galicia – CSIC (AGROFOR), presented the evolution of this innovative project aimed at developing a digital environment and living laboratories to valorize phytogenetic resources of agricultural interest.

FitoNet aims to implement a system for transferring information based on a wide network of collections with pre-breeding and breeding plant varieties, to increase the genetic diversity of crops and develop a dynamic professional social network, generating experiences that show farmers, the food sector, and society in general the importance of using biodiversity to obtain quality, sustainable, and profitable products and crops.
