On October 24, the “I WEBINAR GO FITONET: The social network of phytogenetic resources” took place, connecting over 85 professionals from the sector. The FitoNet Operational Group was established in 2022 within the framework of the Call for Project Implementation of General Interest by Operational Groups of the European Association for Innovation in agricultural productivity and sustainability.

The project involves the creation of Living Labs and pilot projects, as well as the development of a web and mobile application (FitoNet). The application will be a tool for exchanging information, knowledge, and resources related to applied plant biology in agriculture, allowing collaboration between researchers, farmers, producers, and companies. The ultimate goal is to improve the variety offerings available to users, promote sustainable practices that respect the environment, and support the growing societal demand for differentiated vegetable products with higher nutritional and organoleptic quality.

This webinar allowed the presentation of the objectives and activities of the FITONET Operational Group, as well as the progress being made in the project. Advances in the four pilot activities of the project were presented; showing the existing interaction between research groups and the companies in the sector that are members of the project during the development of each activity, the current situation, and the development of the future FitoNet application, along with the perception and benefits that the project brings to farmers and, consequently, to society.
