On May 22, 2025, the 1st GO PISTABIOTECH Webinar: Biotechnological Valorization Network of Pistachio Byproducts took place, gathering more than 50 professionals from the sector to present the objectives and approaches of this Potential Operational Group, focused on the biotechnological valorization of byproducts generated during the cultivation and processing of pistachio.

During the event, key topics were addressed, such as the increasing production of pistachios in Spain and the volume of waste it generates, the need to find solutions with higher added value, and the profitability of the cultivation at the national level. In this regard, the collaborative approach among research centers, producers, processors, and entities specialized in technological transfer proposed by this innovative project was highlighted to apply scientific knowledge in the development of new products from these waste materials.

Furthermore, throughout the day, practical experiences from the production and processing sector were presented, as well as advancements in research on the fractionation and utilization of lignocellulosic biomass to obtain high-value compounds. All of this allowed this webinar to present the GOP PISTABIOTECH initiative to enhance the competitiveness of the pistachio sector and address current environmental and productive challenges.
