The Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, through the Secretary of State for R&D&I and in collaboration with various entities, is developing the “Spanish Bioeconomy Strategy HORIZON 3030.” This is an initiative by the Administration to promote bioeconomy, understood as the set of activities that obtain products and services that generate economic value using raw materials from biological sources. This Strategy will focus on the activity of the agricultural, fishing, aquaculture, food, and forestry sectors, on the efficient and sustainable use of the products, by-products, and waste they generate, as well as of the products obtained from algae crops and microorganisms and other bioprocesses.
The objective of this strategy is to improve the competitive position of these sectors through advances in biotechnology. Furthermore, it aims to enhance the integral utilization of biological resources. All of this is intended to boost economic activity and improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the productive sectors linked to the use of biologically based resources, promoting the development and application of technologies generated through collaboration between the science and technology system and companies. With this strategy, the goal is to reach 2030 with innovative, competitive, and efficient companies, with a more diversified and environmentally sustainable economy.
This Strategy is part of the Administration’s commitment to Bioeconomy, and the set of technologies and innovations associated with Biology, as a fundamental and strategic engine for the economic growth of Spain, and particularly for the competitive improvement of the agri-food and forestry sectors.
Thus, over the last few months, work has been done with the aim of designing and developing the Spanish Bioeconomy Strategy. BIOVEGEN, as a relevant entity in the agricultural and biotechnological sector, has been invited to participate in the design and development of this Strategy, for which they have participated in meetings and prepared input documents that reflect the needs of the sector and BIOVEGEN’s vision to enhance the competitive development of the agri-food sector through the incorporation of new technologies.
